It was a particularly discouraging day on the sidewalk with many moms going in for abortion. Some of the people going in were actually being led in by partners. I kept offering flowers and help. One of the moms I offered a flower to walked up to us and started talking. She was pregnant and pretty distraught. She felt she had no other option but to choose abortion. She was willing to listen to what I had to say so I took her over to our outreach building. She unfolded her story and began to tell me her fears and concerns. Her fears were vast. Her concerns were valid. She also did not want to have an abortion. She wanted a way  to choose life. I asked her if she'd like to go to our outreach building to talk. She said she did.

We began to sort through her fears and concerns. After that I started offering her resources. Interestingly there are many more resources than most know about. There are options for free or low cost housing depending on circumstances. Several organizations offer free clothing and food. Others offer support through counseling and education. Obria Medical Clinic offers obgyn care and another avenue of resources and support.

Ultimately our mom left with hope. She left without having to face the guilt, shame and depression that often come with having an abortion. She left with a dream of being a parent. She knows our organization will help with what we can. She is going forward to the next day with a chance to put one foot in front of the other for herself and for her unborn little girl.

This week Sarah and I had lunch with her and she is peaceful and steadfast in her quest for a better life knowing there are groups of people who want to help. This is a promise of living by choosing life.
