🙏Miracles Happen When We Least Expect Them

Sometimes the most ordinary moments become the ones we never forget.

I was packing up to leave the sidewalk when I noticed a young woman standing nearby. She looked uncertain—almost as if she was trying to convince herself of what to do. I walked over and offered her a flower.

She accepted it.

That small act opened the door to a conversation. I gently asked why she was at Planned Parenthood and what her plans were. Her answers were difficult to follow. Her story seemed to change direction several times, and I wasn't sure what was true and what wasn't. Before I could learn more, she thanked me, turned, and walked inside.

As my shift ended, another sidewalk advocate, Sarah, arrived to take over. I told her about the young woman and asked her to watch for her in case she came back out.

Not long afterward, she did.

Sarah met her on the sidewalk and spent several minutes talking with her. That conversation led to something even more significant—Felicia agreed to come into our Life House building, where they continued talking at length.

Later, Sarah called me with incredible news.

"If this mom chooses life," she said, "it will truly be a miracle."

Felicia had already taken the abortion pill. Yet she was still pregnant. Now, instead of continuing with the abortion, she was choosing life.

We were filled with hope but also knew the road ahead would require courage, support, and prayer.

Months passed before I saw Felicia again.

This time, she wasn't frightened or confused. She was smiling.

She is now happily carrying her first child—a beautiful baby girl—and she couldn't be more excited about becoming a mother.

As we talked, I learned just how much had happened since that day on the sidewalk.

She followed Sarah's advice and visited the Pregnancy Care Center, where her pregnancy was confirmed. More importantly, she experienced a renewal of her faith. I first heard about this from the center's director, who contacted me to say that an unnamed mother we had spoken with had come in seeking help. Later, Felicia confirmed she was the woman they had told me about.

She also reached out to Catholic Charities and other local organizations, building a network of practical support for herself and her daughter. During our visit together over smoothies, I was able to pass along some maternity clothes and connect her with a few job opportunities.

Watching her transformation was nothing short of remarkable.

What began as a brief encounter with a flower became the beginning of a completely different future.

Experiences like this remind me why we stand on the sidewalk week after week. We rarely know how a conversation will end. Sometimes we never learn what happened after someone walks through those doors.

But every now and then, God allows us to witness the rest of the story.

One simple invitation.
One caring conversation.
One courageous decision.

And now, one little girl has the chance to live.

Miracles don't always happen with great fanfare. Sometimes they begin with a flower, a listening ear, and people willing to be present when it matters most.

This little girl is already deeply loved, and I can't wait to meet her.

Stay tuned—there's more to this story.
